Carlos Torres Vila, Chairman, BBVA

Born in Salamanca (Spain) in 1966.

Carlos graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he later also earned a M.S. at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He also graduated in Law from UNED (Spain).

He worked at McKinsey & Company for 12 years, and became a partner of the Firm in 1997. He joined Endesa in 2002 as Corporate Director of Strategy and member of its Executive Committee, and became company CFO in 2007.

In September 2008, Carlos joined BBVA as Head of Strategy and Corporate Development, and member of the bank's Management Committee. In March 2014 he was appointed Head of Digital Banking, until May 2015 when he became Chief Executive Officer of the bank.

Carlos was appointed BBVA’s executive Chairman and Chairman of the BBVA Foundation in December 2018.

In addition, he is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of International Finance (IIF),the International Business Council (IBC) of the World Economic Forum, the European Financial Services Roundtable (EFR), the International Advisory Panel of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), and the Institut International d'Études Bancaires (IIEB). He also represents BBVA at the International Monetary Conference (IMC).

He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Endeavor Spain and the Governing Board of the Association for the Progress of Management (APD) and represents BBVA in several non-for-profit organizations that support social, educational, cultural and scientific activities.
